Extra-Curricular Opportunities

Extra-Curricular Opportunities

One of the key features we want West Bromwich Collegiate Academy to be known for is opportunity.

We aim to make sure all students are involved in some level of extra-curricular activity and feel we have a superb programme to showcase the talents of students. Though the below are our current plans, we also want to hear from students about any additional opportunities they would like to see.

Sporting Activities

In partnership with the local leisure centre and local clubs we will be running a number of after school and lunchtime sporting clubs. These will come with attached fixtures for students to compete against local schools. We look forward to our first victories for the Academy!

Student Democracy

Be part of our student council and help to shape the direction of the Academy by giving feedback to the staff, representing student views and helping to get involved with promoting new ideas and initiatives.

Shows

The Academy is committed to the Arts and will look to put on at least one show per year which parents can come and watch. We will have a theatre with excellent stage lighting and sound and the opportunity for partnership work with the Birmingham Hippodrome who have a special relationship with the Trust. In addition we will be part of the Shakespeare in Schools festival.

Music Opportunities

We will engage with Sandwell Music for peripatetic teachers for those students who wish to learn a musical instrument. As students become more accomplished we hope to offer a series of choirs, bands and ensembles for students to showcase their musical talents.

Student Journalism and Newsletters

Come and work with us on the communication from the Academy, learn both written print and social media expertise to showcase stories from Academy life. All of the other opportunities listed in this section will need you to work with them to bring their stories to a wide audience. Within this we will also engage with BBC School Report.

Debating

We will join the Urban Debating league and participate in formal debating as team representatives from the Academy. The Trust has had winners of this competition in the past.
