ASDAN Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE)

Curriculum

We offer the ASDAN Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE) at Level 1 and Level 2 as part of our commitment to developing confident, independent, and capable learners. CoPE is a nationally recognised qualification that supports the development of key personal and employability skills through practical, engaging, and meaningful learning experiences.

What is Cope?

CoPE is a flexible, skills-based qualification that encourages pupils to take responsibility for their own learning. It is designed to develop a wide range of personal and social skills that are essential for success in education, employment, and adult life.

Pupils work through a series of challenges and activities, building a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates their achievements. The course is assessed internally and moderated by ASDAN.

Course Overview

Key SKills Developed

Throughout the course, pupils develop and demonstrate competence in:

  • Working with others
  • Improving own learning and performance
  • Problem solving
  • Research
  • Discussion
  • Oral presentation

Modules Studied

Pupils complete challenges from a variety of modules, which may include:

  • Health and Fitness – exploring healthy lifestyles, planning fitness routines, and understanding nutrition
  • Independent Living – learning about budgeting, cooking, and managing a household
  • The Environment – investigating environmental issues and taking part in sustainability projects
  • Citizenship and Community – engaging with local issues, volunteering, and understanding civic responsibility
  • Work-Related Learning – preparing for employment, writing CVs, and exploring career options
  • Expressive Arts – developing creativity through music, drama, or visual arts
  • Beliefs and Values – reflecting on personal beliefs and exploring ethical issues

Aims of the Cope Programme

The CoPE qualification aims to:

  • Promote independent learning and self-management
  • Encourage teamwork, communication, and problem-solving
  • Build confidence, resilience, and responsibility
  • Prepare pupils for further education, training, and employment
  • Recognise and celebrate a wide range of achievements beyond traditional academic subjects

Why Choose COpe?

CoPE is particularly valuable for pupils who benefit from a practical, skills-based approach to learning. It supports personal growth, enhances employability, and provides a strong foundation for life beyond school. Successful completion of CoPE at Level 2 can also contribute to a pupil’s post-16 progression, including college applications and apprenticeships.
