As we break up for the summer holidays, Sandwell have shared a useful e-safety guide – the link to it is here.

Child Online Safety for Parents guidance booklet July 2020

We would like to highlight a few important facts:

Age restrictions. Young people should be of a certain age to access and use certain social media sites. The age restrictions are listed here.

  • WhatsApp – 16 years old
  • Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat – 13 years old
  • Fortnite – 12 years old
  • TikTok, YouTube and Roblox – 18 years old (can be younger with parent/carer consent and supervision)

It is essential that you monitor your child’s phone and internet use and are aware of any warning signs. This booklet will remind you of some of the key issues and concerns regarding online activity.

Remember that WBCA has a zero tolerance policy on mobile phone use on the Academy site.

Any cases of improper phone or internet use will be investigated and families contacted. Where issues that arise outside of school are brought to our attention we will work with families to put things right, however we are not in control of what the children do, who they contact and what they access on phones and online. We rely heavily on your support as parents and families to ensure that students behave in a safe and decent manner.
