At West Bromwich Collegiate Academy we aim for all children to be fully engaged with our curriculum. This extends to opportunities outside of lessons. Our intention is that all of our students will be involved with at least one extra-curricular activity each week and fully enjoy the time they spend working with us in the Academy.

Our newly forming team of staff have a variety of interests and talents and we will be offering a range of extra-curricular activities throughout the year. Hopefully there will be something to cater for everyone’s tastes.

These may include, but not be limited to, the following:

Performance and Sport

We aim to offer musical instrument tuition and a variety of music clubs including bands and singing groups. Our links with the Birmingham Hippodrome will provide some fantastic opportunities in Drama and Dance, including support to hold productions across the year. In time, we will create sports teams to take part in fixtures across the borough.

Science and Technology

A Science/STEM club will inspire and engage students in Science outside of the classroom. Miss Gardner is an avid Lego collector and would love to run a Lego club. Mr Faux is a board game enthusiast and would approve of a board game group. Several members of the team enjoy taking part in Escape Rooms (a fairly new craze sweeping the nation – rooms where a series of puzzles have to be solved in order to ‘escape’ or accomplish a goal). We are planning to create one for our students to develop their problem solving and team work skills.

Student Leadership

We will appoint an active Student Council with representatives from each form who will help to shape West Bromwich Collegiate Academy as it begins to grow. Student Leadership opportunities will also include student-led social media/blogging and a newsletter.

Events across the Trust

We are planning a range of events across the year to celebrate the skills of our young people, such as Artist of the Year, Poet of the Year, Singer of the Year. It may well be that these events are collaborations with the other Secondary Academies in our trust. We aim to host and take part in several competitions between West Bromwich, Shireland and Thorns Collegiate Academy students. We have already announced a joint event – the Ski Trip to Bormio – with Shireland Collegiate Academy. More details about this will be in the Welcome Packs.

Awareness Days

World Book Day, British Science Week, Christmas Jumper Day…. wherever possible we aim for students to be involved with Awareness Days and to take part in fundraising activities for a range of different charities and events.

Homework Clubs

Students can use their devices and receive some support from staff to complete their homework and Flipped Learning.

There are some very exciting times ahead. We hope that our new students do everything they can to get involved. Please get in touch with us if you have any suggestions or ideas.
