After a week of rain it’s nice to see a bit of sunshine today as we approach the final four weeks of term.
It seems strange but this week we completed our prospectus for students joining us in September 2020 before we have our 2019 students starting with us. Applications open in July and we hope to get round as many primary schools as possible in the next few weeks to meet prospective new students.
Back to this year it has been a week full of progress. We have employed our catering staff who are looking forward to creating some great meals for the students next year. We lined up a photographer for the first day, advertised our last two posts (Science technician and IT technician), spent a lot of time talking to primary schools about students’ needs and have been planning the induction day.
This is coming up really fast. Our plans are that on the day we will have:
A gathering together and whole school talk
An opportunity for students to meet together in forms
An opportunity for students to meet together in houses
An activity session focussing on students hopes for the Academy and making a starters’ year book
A drama based session focussing on icebreaking activities
It promises to be a great day and the first time all the students and staff have come together. I will send a letter out with full details next week to all families so you are sure of the arrangements. Staff are meeting in advance next week to make sure the day is as special as possible.
Next up is buying more things for the Academy, PE equipment, Art equipment, Science equipment, books and resources and general office and stationery purchases. Everything from fire extinguishers to blinds and hand dryers are on the list. We are also looking at having an Academy minibus which will make a big difference in getting the students out and about. In effect it is shopping week with plenty of time to have things delivered to site.
Site continues to progress, we are still expecting an August handover and I am there on Tuesday and will be able to give you a full report on the progress.
Have a fantastic weekend.
Kind regards
