In July, our year 7 and 8 students took part in an amazing performance project in collaboration with the Birmingham Hippodrome.

The project centred around creating a captivating performance inspired by the timeless classic ‘The Lion King’, with students also having the opportunity to showcase their hard work to the public alongside other local secondary schools at the Patrick Centre.

Under the expert guidance of a Learning Artist from the theatre, students were challenged to craft their own unique prequel story which unravelled the origins of the infamous villain of the story, Scar. The amount that students had accomplished in just four sessions was nothing short of superb, earning much deserved praise for their creativity and storytelling prowess.

We also had a tailored workshop led by Disney’s Educational Team, where students immersed themselves in various scenes from the production, exploring and reimagining them to create their own unique retelling, producing some excellent ideas. We are proud to say that Disney’s representatives were really impressed by our students’ contributions, with our year groups also providing some excellent feedback following their sessions, reflecting their enthusiasm and commitment to the project.

As a special treat for all their hard work, students were rewarded with a special trip to the theatre to watch the “The Lion King” musical performance at the Birmingham Hippodrome. They had a fantastic time and as always, our students represented the Academy brilliantly in both ability and conduct.
