Year 7 students were treated to an unforgettable afternoon of live music as they attended a performance by the Wolverhampton Symphony Orchestra at The Halls, Wolverhampton.

The visit was made all the more special as the Academy’s very own Miss Chater also performed alongside the orchestra, inspiring admiration and support from the Academy’s students in the audience.

The concert featured works by classical greats such as Mozart and Beethoven, with students recognising many familiar melodies. The event offered an engaging introduction to classical music, sparking curiosity and a newfound appreciation for the genre. For many students, this was their first experience of hearing live orchestral music, an experience made all the more meaningful by their teacher’s debut performance.

Mary Henderson, Associate Principal at West Bromwich Collegiate Academy, said: “It was a joy to see our year 7 students so engaged and inspired by live classical music. Opportunities like this don’t just entertain, they broaden horizons, spark curiosity, and nurture a deeper appreciation for the arts and their place in our lives.

“To witness one of our own members of staff perform on stage added something truly special. It reminded our students that talent, dedication, and creativity aren’t distant ideals, they’re alive and thriving within their own school community.”

The visit was part of the Academy’s ongoing commitment to enriching students’ cultural education and broadening their exposure to the arts. Special thanks were extended to Miss Chater for organising the trip and for her role in bringing classical music to life for a new generation.
