West Bromwich students explore future pathways at UCAS Discovery event

Students from West Bromwich Collegiate Academy gained valuable insight into their future options after attending the UCAS Discovery event at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.

The visit gave students the opportunity to explore a wide range of university, career and apprenticeship pathways, helping them develop a clearer understanding of the routes available beyond secondary education.

The event brought together thousands of students from across the UK, with representatives from more than 150 universities, colleges, employers and training providers offering advice and guidance on future opportunities. Students spoke directly with providers, explored different subject areas and discovered more about careers linked to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Alongside exploring university options, students also learned more about alternative routes, including apprenticeships and employer-led programmes. The event provided valuable insight into application processes, entry requirements and the skills needed for a range of different career pathways.

UCAS Discovery events are delivered by UCAS, an independent charity and shared admissions service for higher education in the UK. UCAS supports students by providing information, advice and guidance to help them make informed decisions about their education and future careers.

Associate Principal, Hannah Percival, said: “Opportunities like this are incredibly valuable because they help students understand the link between their learning in the classroom and the possibilities available to them in the future. Meeting universities, employers and professionals gives our young people the chance to broaden their horizons, ask questions and make more informed choices about their next steps.

“We want every student at the Academy to leave us with ambition, confidence and the belief that they can achieve their goals. Experiences beyond the classroom are an important part of developing that mindset, and we are proud of the way our students embrace these opportunities.”

The visit left students with a greater understanding of the routes available to them and encouraged them to think more broadly about their ambitions as they continue to plan their futures beyond West Bromwich Collegiate Academy.
