Best ever GCSE results for West Bromwich Collegiate Academy

Students at West Bromwich Collegiate Academy (WBCA) are celebrating their GCSE results today, sharing proud moments with their families, friends and staff who have supported them throughout their time at the Academy.

This year, students at WBCA have achieved the strongest GCSE results in the Academy’s history across a wide range of subjects. 62.1% of students secured a Grade 4 or above in both English and Mathematics, which is the government’s benchmark for a standard pass. Twenty-five students gained at least five Grade 7 or higher outcomes, while the cohort collectively achieved thirty-nine Grade 9s, reflecting outstanding dedication, resilience and achievement.

Additionally, 92.3% of Year 11 students completed at least eight qualifications across a broad range of 23 subjects, reflecting the diverse opportunities available at West Bromwich Collegiate Academy.

Mary Henderson, Principal at West Bromwich Collegiate Academy, said: “Today is a day for our students to celebrate and recognise everything they have achieved. Over the past five years, we have seen them grow into mature, confident, decent young people, and it has been a privilege to support them as they have developed and prepared for the opportunities ahead.

“Congratulations to all students on their results. You should be proud of what you have accomplished during your time at the Academy and recognise the progress you have made along the way. On behalf of all staff at WBCA, I wish you all the very best and every success for the future. I would also like to thank our staff and families for the dedication and support they have provided in helping our young people reach this point.”

Performances were particularly strong in English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Art, Psychology and a range of Modern Foreign Languages. The results also included the achievement of an A Level in Polish by a Year 11 student, who prepared independently for the qualification and sat the examination at the Academy.

Sir Mark Grundy, CEO of Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust, said: “Congratulations to all our GCSE students at West Bromwich Collegiate Academy. We are delighted to be celebrating your achievements which are the results of years of hard work and commitment throughout your time at the Academy.

“As you move forward, remember that your success is shaped by much more than your qualifications alone. The experiences you have gained, the relationships you have built and the qualities you have developed will continue to support you as you take on new opportunities. On behalf of everyone at the Trust, I wish you every success and happiness for the future and look forward to seeing all that you go on to achieve.”

West Bromwich Collegiate Academy is hosting its annual Open Evening on Thursday 10 September 2026 for families interested in learning more about joining Year 7 in September 2027. Doors are open from 4.30pm – 8.00pm. No need to book, just turn up.

GCSE subjects are marked under a 1-9 grading system, with 9 being the highest grade. GCSEs are linear in structure rather than modular, with all exams taken at the end of a two-year course.
