Wider Opportunities
At West Bromwich Collegiate Academy, it is important to recognise students’ achievements in order to build self-esteem and confidence and to motivate our students to continue working hard both in academic subjects and in performance subjects. Success is celebrated in a wide variety of ways here at the Academy.
Each week, we hold a rewards section in assemblies to celebrate the success of individuals throughout departments and subject specific courses for all years. Each pupil receives a recognition certificate and epraise points to reward their achievements that week. Separate reward assemblies are also held at the end of each term to celebrate success across the school, where each department nominates students who deserve recognition for the work and/or effort achieved for that term. These assemblies are wonderful occasions as so many students are recognised for their successes. Heads of Departments give out the certificates with members of the Senior Leadership Team also attending to congratulate students.
Excellent attendance is a key factor to student success and every term the tutor groups with the best overall attendance are also rewarded during our rewards assembly. We also hold competitions throughout the year, where weekly attendance is celebrated and rewarded. This is so that pupils are motivated and can see the benefits throughout rather than just at the end of the year.
E-Praise
E-Praise is the Academy’s rewards system where students can earn points to make prizes. Points can be awarded from all teachers in one of the following categories:
- Work and effort in class and with homework
- Kindness
- Participation in school events
- Participation during lessons
- Attendance to clubs and events
Students can spend their points in the E-Praise shop, where they can purchase small sweets, toys, books and academy experiences.
We have rewarded students at the end of year using a whole school rewards programme, where everyone could get involved. As we continue to build on and develop our E-Praise programme, we aim to include a variety of trips and activities which students can participate in throughout the school year.
Some examples of our E-Praise trips and activities have included:
- Rock Climbing
- Ten Pin Bowling
- Go Ape
- Drayton Manor
- Circus Workshop
