We are delighted to announce that our Year 8 team has won the ‘Community Champions’ category after being awarded the Judge’s Favourite at the Apps for Good Showcase 2022!

Our team has seen their innovative app A-Z Safety, designed to fight the fear of reporting domestic abuse and support victims, come out on top against 28,000 students and 270 other entries across the UK. Demonstrating once again how our students can achieve anything they set their minds to when they make the upmost of opportunities provided them.

We are also delighted to share that our Assistant Principal, Mrs Percival, received this year’s Donna Hay Award for Impact, which celebrates and recognises the impact of outstanding educators.

Mrs Percival’s commitment to championing Apps for Good and its courses at the school has been second to none and we have been thrilled with all our students’ achievements as a result. With over 100 student teams taking part in this year’s showcase alone, proving a hugely successful first year on the programme for West Bromwich Collegiate Academy.

Apps for Good has allowed our students the opportunity to further harness and enhance their interests and abilities revolving around Computer Science, with programming and app development being core skills. As students develop and practice these by planning, designing, and building their own apps with the support of leading industries, and how this applies to real-world contexts.

A huge well done to all our students that took part in the programme, and congratulations to our winners!
