Poetry by Heart

Out of 47,622 students in 1,616 schools, Ceyenjae (Y8) was chosen as one of 40 finalists (10 KS3 finalists) in the Poetry By Heart competition.

Yesterday, 1st July2024, she performed poetry on the stage at Shakespeare’s Globe in front of a packed out audience and to professional judges (and a full theatre) in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.

She represented WBCA beautifully, as did the students who attended the event to support her.

Wicked success

On Wednesday 19th June a group of WBCA students were able to visit London by train thanks to Samsritha (Y9) coming runner-up in the Wicked Writers competition. We enjoyed the sunshine whilst in the capital city, visiting Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, Leicester Square, Chinatown and Piccadilly Circus and eating a picnic lunch in St. James’ Park.

We also took in a West End show, Wicked, which thoroughly captivated the students.

All students in attendance represented WBCA excellently and everyone involved had a superb day!

Living Eggs Project for Year 7

This week the students in Year 7 have had the pleasure of some new arrivals in the form of these fantastic chicks.

As part of their ‘Growing’ L4L topic each class has watched the eggs hatch and seen the early stages of development for the chicks.

They have loved holding them and experiencing this phenomenon of life.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

On Friday 12th April, 27 Year 9 students visited Birches Valley Forest Centre in Cannock Chase as part of their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. Throughout the day students learnt the skills needed to navigate; to lead a group and to successfully pass the expedition aspect of the Award.

At the start of the day students were allocated with maps, compasses and whistles to help guide them. The first activity involved students using a map to follow a marked trail and by the end of the day students were navigating paths without using markers working as a team.

Throughout the day, staff saw some excellent examples of teamwork and leadership from all of our students. Each student demonstrated the skills required for the assessed expedition as well as some examples of how to, safely, give first aid to an injured team member.

Several members of the public commented on how polite our students were and how well they represented the Academy.

Well done to every student who attended the trip and for the continued hard work towards achieving their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. We are all looking forward to the assessed expedition in July.

Culture Week

Students spent the week celebrating a diverse range of cultures through food, music, dance, drama, art and more. It was a fantastic, vibrant week culminating in a day where WBCA displayed their culture and heritage through their clothes. Competitions took place in Year Groups and Houses throughout the week and the whole school enjoyed learning more about each other’s cultural traditions and beliefs.
